The Vision of ILC - the Next 90 Years
Immanuel Lutheran Church has been a rock-solid family church serving the people of Alice, Texas for 90 years. Yet times and challenges change. “Just being there”, as a place for families of traditional Lutheran-European stock heritage to raise their families in the faith is no longer a viable primary purpose for ILC. In what has become a diversified community, ILC has begun to rise to the challenge of becoming a truly community church—not just a place people come to, but a place from which people go out to serve and reach the unchurched of Alice.
On any given Sunday, only 5,000-6,000 people are attending church in Alice out of a community of 20,000+. What a mission field! What an exciting opportunity! Already this vision of becoming a “mission” church is taking hold. We’ve begun by focusing our efforts on providing new opportunities for fellowship and growth for all, but especially young families, childcare during worship, simpler yet still liturgical worship, a plan to “adopt “ our neighborhoods for prayer and house by house outreach and growth groups in homes. We’re in the process of tackling an aggressive 90th anniversary project to include more parking and landscape upgrading. A contemporary worship service is not long in the future as well.
Come and join us! In a way, we’re building a new congregation within an older one. Combining the strengths of an established church with the excitement of starting a new mission to the people of Alice.
Welcome to Immanuel COMMUNITY Lutheran Church! |
